Without P-EBT benefits, Sheils struggled to put food on the table over the summer. // Photo submitted As food prices spiked over the summer and her children lost access to school-provided subsidized meals, Jennifer Sheils scrambled to feed her family. This may be your only chance to get a photo op with Vecna.

Stranger Drinks pop-up. // Photo by Tyler Schneider What was once an ordinary doorway to Vignettes is now a gate to The Upside Down as the pop-up bar next to ReRoll Tavern (2376 Armour) in North Kansas City hosts its latest project, “Stranger Drinks: Hellfire Pub,” through Nov. 12.  Before I crossed over, I took a minute to appreciate the…

Drink This Now: Sunday Dress at the Nostalgia Room

Sunday Dress from the Nostalgia Room // Photo by Andrew Windish Lawrence, KS, makes quite a name for itself when it comes to its drinking culture alone. Halloween Ends delivers a confounding finale to David Gordon Green’s slasher run

This Halloween can't end fast enough.

For once in his life, Rob Zombie’s Halloween films will get to skirt the conversation of “most divisive Halloween entries ever.” That honor now belongs to David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends—a lackluster and confounding closing of a trilogy that not only ends with a whimper but began to question what the point of this endeavor was in the first place….

Eat This Now: Zero Zero Handmade Pappardelle

Pappardelle pasta from Zero Zero Handmade Pasta. // Photo by Kala Elkinton As the cool air starts to make its presence known in Kansas City, we turn to comfort foods. Principles of Pot: Ganjiers are the new certified experts on cannabis

Illustration by Cassondra Jones It can be difficult to understand the role of a Ganjier. For those without the knowledge on dispensaries or how flower makes its way into stores, a Ganjier seems frivolous. Who wouldn’t want to make money sitting around observing and smoking weed? But much like a sommelier or chocolatier, a Ganjier specializes in assessing cannabis buds…
