Dead Restaurant List for March 2014

As we bid adieu to the month of March, we also say a sorrowful sayonara to a rather significant number of restaurants in the metro that closed their doors during the month (or a few weeks prior); some had been longtime survivors, like Crown Center’s Kabuki Japanese Restaurant (it closed in January after 28 years), and others, like the Pacific Buffet at…

Report: Kansas income-tax cuts aren’t working

The Kansas Economic Progress Council, a nonprofit business coalition out of Wichita, says Kansas is lagging behind…

Arlo Guthrie is at Liberty Hall on Tuesday

At this point in his life, Arlo Guthrie probably wishes, on some level, that he never wrote the 18-minute epic folk monologue “Alice’s Restaurant.” The tune has followed him around since he released it on the eponymously titled 1967 album, requested at all of his concerts – Guthrie’s own personal “Free Bird.” The brilliant satire of that song is sometimes…

Kansas City Council advances streetcar extension to ballot, would need to find additional $30 million to pay for it

%{}% Earlier in the week, we tried to set the record straight about why the Kansas City streetcar isn’t going to travel down Brookside Boulevard anytime soon, if at all. Some among the chattering class insist that a few grumpy Brookside residents sent City Hall fleeing from a fight with the neighborhood and instead deciding to curtail the line down Main Street near the…
