Now it’s back in town for a Meals on Wheels benefit at Hotel Phillips and 12 Baltimore. The fundraiser happens…

Do politics influence your food choices?

Flickr: Hector Alejandro Things are getting a bit spicy at Chick-fil-A. Mayor Thomas Menino made national headlines last week when he stated that he wasn’t going to have Chick-fil-A in his city in light of comments opposing gay marriage from Dan Cathy, the chicken chain’s president. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not…

Partners Jason Chaffee and Eric Graves have a grand plan to bring a revival theater and retro arcade to Kansas City. It’s a plan not without its ups and downs, nor is it a small financial commitment. Cool down on Monday at the Beer Kitchen

nowviskie It’s all about cold brews and heirloom tomatoes at chef Michael Peterson’s Monday-night beer dinner. Don’t complain about the dry, miserable July heat to chef Michael Peterson. His two young sons are both playing Little League baseball this summer in temperatures far more intense than any hot kitchen where the veteran chef has been employed. But the unrelenting heat…

Todd Barry chides KCI for its earnest Twitter account

One of the many great things about Twitter is that it allows PR folks, brand managers and press agents the ability to instantly reply to problems and concerns, but it provides too little space for them to be verbose and make excuses with bunches of qualifications. Kansas City International Airport’s official feed is an excellent example of this new PR…

Where do you turn for advice on eating out?

Flickr: Andrew Lowry The person behind the counter still matters more than the guy at the keyboard. No decision is ever made in a vacuum. It’s simply too dark and dusty in there. But seriously, folks, eaters have never had more tools at their disposal when considering where to eat. The challenge these days is to try to process and…

Girl in a Coma’s Phanie Diaz talks NPR and influences

Girl in a Coma’s release on Blackheart Records, Exits & All the Rest, was named as one of NPR’s 50 best records of 2011. It’s an astonishing bit of rock and roll from a Los Angeles group that blends rock, punk and girl-group harmonies to create something that’s all their own yet immediately familiar. The trio pops through our fair…

Adam Pearce puts his career on the line Saturday night against NWA Champion Colt Cabana at KCK’s Turner Rec Center

Metro Pro Wrestling Adam Pearce isn’t a fan of art. The last time Adam Pearce was in Kansas City to wrestle, he was smashing one of local artist Rob Schamberger’s paintings over the head of retiring Central States legend Michael Strider. Strider would later get his revenge, beating Pearce in a bloody brawl at Kansas City, Kansas’ Turner Rec Center….

Today is National Daiquiri Day

goodiesfirst A real daiquiri is not a blended drink with strawberries or peaches. “The 1980s ruined the reputation of the daiquiri,” says veteran bartender Shawn Moriarty, currently the featured mixologist at the Majestic Restaurant. “Before they became known as a fruity blender drink, the original daiquiri was a very light, simple cocktail of sugar, rum and lime juice. Very refreshing…
