Bus crash starring the Cleveland Indians — and another bus crash with not-so-famous people

Touring in support of their forthcoming album Blew It Again (featuring what has to be one of the naughtiest covers I’ve seen in a good long while), Electric Tickle Machine brings their catchy-as-hell garage pop to the Replay on November 2. Listen to “Part of Me” below. It’s silly how much I want to hear it again, and I just…

Txt, swrv, crsh illegal 4 21 & yngr n MO Fri
The ban on texting while driving for drivers 21 and younger officially goes into effect Friday. If they get caught, the fine is even heftier than running a red-light camera: $200. How the hell are they going to enforce this one? And why the stupid, arbitrary age restriction? Guess us old bastards can still peck away as we roll down…
Battle of the Dishes: General Tso dukes it out
Two General Tso’s battle it out for carry-out supremacy Two popular Chinese restaurants — Bo Lings at 4800 Main Street and Kin Lin at 314 E. 51st Street — are only an eight or nine blocks distance from each other, but in many ways these two restaurants are worlds apart. Bo Lings is well-established, glamorous and not inexpensive. Kin Lin,…

Fun Fun Fun Fest Lineup Announced
The fourth annual Fun Fun Fun Fest (which is just as much fun to type as it is to say) just announced its lineup, and rather than copy, paste, and code each and every one of the 91 acts confirmed thus far, I’ll let you take a gander at this lovely flier: Holy hell. The event takes place in Austin’s…
Is Horacio Ramirez the reason health care can’t get fixed?
There’s a parallel between the health care debate and the Royals, and it has nothing to do with boos and hisses. James Surowiecki, who writes about business and finance at The New Yorker, posits that resistance to the Democrats’ ideas for reforming health care has a psychological component. The skittishness, Surowiecki explains, is partly a reflection of biases that make…
Congressman Sam Graves’ health-care campaign contributions
In honor of Missouri Rep. Sam Graves’ town hall meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. this afternoon at Park Hill High School, here’s a list of medical-industry campaign contributions that went to the 6th District Congressman in his last election. We’ve already counted up the industry’s contributions to Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts and Rep. Dennis Moore, so we figured it was…
The Rapper Who Fell to Earth

KCK police looking for Cincinnati Reds fan

I’m guessing not many. If you’ve seen him, know him, cheered the…

IHOP wants to assure you that even though 100-foot snakes will fall from the sky, there’s nothing to fear
The International House of Prayer doesn’t want you to fear them. They’re just misunderstood (so they say). To call their neighbors’ fears, the church will hold a pair of neighborhood meetings to try to calm the fears, according to The Kansas City Star. Guess folks are a little freaked out because a) IHOP’s prayer room is open 24/7 (been there;…
Throwback MP3 of the Week: The Egomaniacs, “Whiteshirt/Birdshit”
Maybe it’s because I did Ruskabank for this post a couple weeks ago, which has me thinking of Manhattan, and the fun times I had every time I went out there to visit folks or see shows. Or maybe it’s because Sound Opinions had the Jesus Lizard on this week, and I got in the mind for some post-punk rock….
