Last year, Westport’s Green Room Burgers & Beer (4010 Pennsylvania) created the Pitch Burger for the inaugural Burger Week. The sandwich was such a success that the venue has brought it back for a repeat appearance.

During yesterday’s opening day of Burger Week 2015, Green Room was packed with people watching the Royals game on TV monitors mounted around the bar. Others waited for the Monday night trivia contest. Our server told us that “almost everyone in the place had ordered a Pitch Burger.”

And why not?

For five bucks — through Sunday, October 25 — this double-decker burger is a classic: two beef patties, 2-ounces each, grilled and topped with melting Tillamook cheddar. The top patty is then garnished with slices of thick-cut bacon, onions, pickles, and scratch-made Brewhaus beer mustard. On top of all that? One of Green Room’s celebrated beer-battered onion rings. The sandwich is held together by a soft white Roma bun, and the deal includes you can add a side for $1: fresh fruit, cottage cheese, cole slaw or nano fries (a very small order, hence the name). We ordered a full order of fries to balance out all that healthy fresh mango.

So far, The Pitch has previewed several of this week’s featured Burger Week choices, including the Lew’s Grill & Bar’s Holy Guacamole Burger, Flying Saucer’s Hangover Burger, Niecie’s Bacon Boss Burger, KC’s Smokehouse and Pub’s Post Season Porker Burger, the Well’s B.O.M.B Burger and Fuddruckers’ Quarter Pound BBQ Burger.
