The Kansas City Royals announced via Twitter that Hamm will play in a celebrity wiffle-ball game in the “Little K” prior to tonight’s tilt versus the Cubs. The wiffle-ball game kicks off the Big Slick Celebrity Poker Tournament and Party weekend…

The Wichita Eagle, citing Newell’s attorney, reported that Newell pleaded guilty to lesser charges of false impersonation of an officer. Madame Hatter has a teapot for you, but no tea or sympathy

Bonner Springs lost a charming little restaurant this month: Madame Hatter’s Tea Room, where owner Bonnie Freeland served tea and tasty lunches and desserts on pretty patterned china. Fat City reported that the restaurant was closing on June 15, noting that Freeland planned to sell nearly everything in the building this week. According to the Eudora Examiner, the sale started…

In their effort to recover from the ongoing sex-abuse scandal, the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese has removed Vicar General Robert Murphy from his job handling sex-abuse complaints. Murphy is succeeded as vicar by the Rev. Joseph Powers. Bishop Finn appointed him the same day a suit was filed against the diocese claiming that they failed to comply with the terms…

Westboro Baptist Church fails to show up at Ryan Dunn’s funeral

As Jackass fans mourned the drunk-driving death of show star Ryan Dunn this week, the Phelps family did what it does best: Issued an ugly press release filled with threats and hateful words that have been used so many times by now, they’re meaningless. The Westboro Baptist Church’s release says, “Ryan Dunn is in hell! Drab pervert hawked porn-level filth…

Teams had 10 hours to shoot and edit a five-minute film and get it to the Screenland Armour for a screening and an awards presentation. Director…

Inmate allegedly gets beat down over Honey Buns

Forget smuggled packs of Marlboro reds. The new prison currency sweeping the nation is Little Debbie Honey Buns. No, seriously. Earlier this year, the National Public Radio show Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me featured a story about a Florida jail’s obsession with the sugary desserts. Comedian Mo Rocca reported: It’s not what you’re thinking. Inside Florida’s prisons, Honey Buns,…

Matt and Kim and the Thermals agree to disagree about punk, last night at the Beaumont Club

Matt and Kim, the Thermals, AutobotThe Beaumont ClubWednesday, June 22 By Kent Szlauderbach Since their viral, naked video in Times Square, Brooklyn’s Matt & Kim has in some ways become more brand than band, making last night’s show at the Beaumont more expo than concert. Beyond the blast of sugar-high, club-punk anthems, the Matt & Kim name streaked across ubiquitous 8-foot-tall…

Kris Kobach wrote Alabama immigration law in a turkey blind

Confirmed: Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is a robot. The final piece of evidence to prove this commonly held belief came into place last week in a piece from Politico about Kobach’s theory that stiff anti-illegal-immigration bills will become common. Politico summarizes Alabama’s recently adopted Kobach-penned “Arizona-style” immigration bill this way: Categories: News, Politics Tags: Kris Kobach, robots
