Kansas City Chiefs fans get it on in the parking lot? Deadspin has photographic evidence (NSFW)

UPDATE: We’ve been contacted by one of the people in the photo in question, and they’ve asked, and we’ve agreed, to further black out their faces. So we’re stealing Deadspin’s new, identity-concealing photo. What we can share is that this couple is married couple. As you can imagine, they were drunk, don’t remember much and regret this. Original Story (January…

Rockers: how to act classy at classy gigs (even though you’re not)

As I get older, I find myself attending more concerts of a “sophisticated” nature: symphonies, chorales, et cetera. While we all know the various rules of concert attendance at rock shows, thanks to Ian Hrabe’s post the top five most infuriating concert attendees last August, some folks out there might not know how to behave at a performance where there’s…

How your bagel could get you kicked off a flight

A Florida man was kicked off a plane last week after passengers became concerned about strange noises coming from a “suspicious package” in an overhead compartment. NBC Miami reports that Ognjen Milatovic’s suspicious package turned out to be a plastic bag filled with keys, a hat, his wallet, and a bagel with cream cheese. Categories: Dining, Food & Drink

Koo Koo Kanga Roo get goofy at RecordBar tonight

Ever since hip-hop became a mainstream affair, white folks have done what they do best: Co-opt it and rework it for the suburbs (or college kids). Minneapolis is famous for the indie hip-hop label Rhymesayers, which has done much to legitimize white-boy hip-hop with such artists as Atmosphere, Brother Ali and KC’s own Mac Lethal. Minneapolis also has spawned Koo…

Bill Self has a red (and hillbilly) ass; Big 12 opponents beware

%{}% Kansas basketball coach Bill Self is feeling grouchy, and fans should be happy about it. Sports Illustrated writer and CBS Sports contributor Seth Davis put in a call to Self after watching the normally “aw-shucks hillbilly fellow” (Davis’ words) turn into someone who looks like he’s ready to go Sprewell on someone wearing a blue practice jersey. In addition…

Mass bird death comes to mid-Missouri; totally not a sign of the apocalypse

Load your shotgun, grab your Bible and head for the hills. Mass bird death — supposedly a sign of the coming apocalypse — has come to mid-Missouri! KRCG-TV reported that about 30 starlings bit the dust on Rockbridge Road in Cole County on Saturday, bringing the latest ornithological/End Times fad to the Show Me State. This mass bird death was…

A newspaper that’s thriving? Yeah …Kansas City’s Most Wanted

If only we could call this a silver lining in the economic clouds that continue to rain shit on the print-publication industry. Alas, the fact that Kansas City’s Most Wanted is thriving speaks more to successes in law enforcement, not print media. But that’s still a really good thing! The paper, a project of  the Kansas City Crimestoppers since 2007,…

The hot restaurant color of 2011? Red!

Every era has its own distinctive palette of colors, and restaurants tend to reflect those shades. The popular restaurant decorative shades of the 1970s, for example, happened to reflect the most popular wine of that decade: the pinky rose blush of white zinfandel. Yeah, there’s no accounting for taste. The restaurants of the following decade played around with variations of…

Tales from the Four Loko black market

Yo, man, you got that Four Loko? NBC New York reports on the thriving black market (read: Craigslist) for cans of Four Loko that predate the FDA’s caffeine-additive ban. Leave it to an enterprising group of frat guys to profit from a market inefficiency created by the regulation of a company started by frat guys.  Categories: Dining, Food & Drink

Carrie Rodriguez and other songstresses are coming to Knuckleheads

If you’re going to suffer a lonely Valentine’s Day, couch your sorrow in some folksy, acoustic chick rock: It’s an “acoustic cafe evening” down at Knuckleheads Saloon on February 15. The night will be headlined by Carrie Rodriguez, but the tour features three critically acclaimed female singer-songwriters, including multi-instrumentalist Erin McKeown and award-winning Nashville Americana-folk artist Mary Gauthier. Hibernation foods? What are the best carry-out dishes?

I canceled my plans last night to drive out to a restaurant at 135th and Nall because, well, the 50-block drive from downtown to 57th Street was exhausting enough, thanks to the snow and ice and drivers who were even less competent in these weather conditions than I was, if that’s possible. Honestly, I just wanted to stay home on…

Fellas, may you never anger your lady to the point that she shoots you in the groin. A 42-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly shooting her husband in the junk on Monday night. The Kansas City Star reported that a witness heard the couple arguing in the 1100 block of East 76th Terrace. The woman allegedly told her hubby: “If…

Streetside Records might not close forever, after all

Kansas City had its own Empire Records-style gathering this weekend to save a vinyl institution in Westport. Streetside Records, one of the last remaining record stores in midtown, hosted a series of in-store performances and store-closing clearance bonanzas on Friday and Saturday to keep the music alive. Rumor has it that Streetside lovers may not have to file their nostalgia…

Richard Clay gets to live; Gov. Jay Nixon commutes sentence

If Richard Clay dies Wednesday, it won’t be by lethal injection. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon commuted Clay’s death sentence, instead giving him life in prison without parole. Clay was convicted in 2004 of killing Randy Martindale in 1994 in a murder-for-hire plot. Nixon released a statement saying Clay’s “involvement in this crime is clear” and “the evidence clearly supports the…

Now, Of Montreal will bop its way back to Lawrence in May.  Categories: Music Tags: janelle monae, of montreal

Sacramento Kings relocation talk focuses on Anaheim, not Kansas City

%{}% The Sacramento Kings won’t be getting a new arena in Sac-Town. The deal is dead, and the latest relocation talk seems to point toward Anaheim, not Kansas City. This all comes after the NBA franchise’s owners released a statement saying that they’re ready to mingle with potential new homes. “We are looking at all options to ensure the long-term…

With the Fusion Buffet now open in Westport, the allure of all-you-can-eat will be too strong for some to resist. And because not everybody is an expert when it comes to navigating the chafing-dish gauntlet, I thought I’d go through some of the most common mistakes that can ruin a perfectly good smorgasbord. Here are the top five mistakes you’re…
