Pro Hockey at the Sprint Center, September 22

The Sprint Center hosted an NHL exhibition game Tuesday night, with the Los Angeles Kings winning a brawl-filled bout with the New York Islanders 4-2. A small crowd — reportedly 9,792 — of hockey enthusiasts came out to see the Islanders, a team rumored to be a potential anchor tenant (although Sprint Center officials have tried to end that speculation).

Tim Leiweke, chief executive of the sports and entertainment empire AEG, has been involved in some big deals. But no project compares with the challenge of building a convention hotel, he told a group of city leaders on Tuesday. “Hardest project I’ve ever done in my life. Period,” Leiweke said. Standing in the seating bowl of the Sprint Center, which…

But the political press for the 2010 race has already started.  This summer, cyclists rightfully…

Todd Tiahrt tries hand at stand-up comedy, fails

Nobody said Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt wasn’t funny. In this clip, a bunch of blue hairs laugh their asses off at Tiahrt’s claim that there’s a bill that would set a pay scale for doctors. The old folks didn’t buy it. Tiahrt didn’t skip a beat with his animatronic speech. Yeah, what is the deal with health-care reform? Categories: News,…

Head of KS Chamber of Commerce publishes stupid commentary

This morning, The Kansas City Star’s Business section ran a guest commentary by Amy J. Blankenbiller, president and CEO of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. Slugged “Businesses are under fire from Washington,” Blankenbiller’s spin on current events was predictably conservative. But coming from the head of a pro-business organization that expects to be taken seriously, it was also laughably irresponsible….
