KC skateboarders inspired by Weeds
Love this parody of the Weeds intro — set to the “Little Boxes” theme — from Keelin Austin and Tony Schwichtenberg. The ending makes it so worth it. Little Boxes from Keelin Austin on Vimeo Categories: News Tags: Kansas City, kansas city, Little Boxes, skateboarders, Weeds
The reason your dishwasher isn’t cleaning your dishes
It’s not because the dishwasher is cheap, decrepit and was installed during the Harding administration. No, your dishwasher doesn’t clean dishes because you already did! So says cleaning expert Arianne Cohen, who cites pre-rinsing dishes as the number-one fault people make when using the machine. In addition to wasting water and energy, it has the opposite effect on the dishes….
Bees make the best brake lights
A swarm of bees latched on to the back of a car on top of a parking garage on the Country Club Plaza, and Fox 4 was there to capture the bizarre video. Sounds like the woman didn’t mind having a colony of bees attached to the rear of her car and drove away. Categories: News Tags: bees, country club…
Do brunch! Be trendy!
Cupcakes have been a fad for so long that magazines have started guessing what’s next. (Best current guess is corn dogs.) But like Jay Leno, every time you think cupcakes have gone away, they somehow reappear. For some reason the cupcake trend hasn’t morphed with the other food du jour: bacon. Until now. Enter bacon’s cousin ham, and delicious-looking honey…
Shawnee Mission North teacher has serious Facebook fans — 960 of ’em
School’s out for the summer at Shawnee Mission North this Thursday. But mixed with the glee that comes with the start of summer break is some anxiety that one of the school’s most beloved teachers, Ned Scott, won’t be back next year. Scott, 52, is himself an SMN graduate, class of 1974. He’s been a teacher for 22 years, 12…
Quickly learn about wine
One of my most educational experiences was shopping at Costco with sommelier Kelly Wooldridge. He didn’t mind me recording his wisdom and the post about his tips for picking out the perfect wine remains a personal favorite. Wooldridge has been working in the wine business since before he was legally allowed to drink (at least drink in America) and acquired…
Man killed riding to his bike on I-29/35
A bicyclist headed for the Isle of Capri Casino was killed early Tuesday — a little more than a week after Bike Week. Fox 4 says police have identified the bicyclist as 33-year-old Junior Christopher, who worked at the casino. The Kansas City Star says Christopher was hit from behind by a semi-trailer while northbound on Interstate 29/35, south of…
Wet your whistle while you work
A coworker passed this link around the office yesterday with the title of “duh.” I wasn’t aware that media people were the heaviest group of working drinkers. But oh yes we are — at least our British counterparts are. According to The Guardian, people who work in British media put back more than four bottles of wine per week. Media…
KU student’s blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit
%{}% The autopsy report came back yesterday for Jason Wren, the 19-year-old University of Kansas student who was found dead at a Lawrence frat house in March, and wow. Incomings: Asher Roth & Kid Cudi, Wallflowers, Glasvegas …
Presale is the name of the game at VooDoo Lounge, and you’ve only got a few days to get early tix for frat-rap vulgarian Asher Roth, coming on July 20 with Cleveland’s Kid Cudi, as well as ’90s-slash-Dylan offspring the Wallflowers, coming July 27. Roth’s is a rare 18-and-up show, so you’re in luck, there, Kaylee! Presales are going through…
There is no conspiracy between energy drinks and cocaine!
It seems a week can’t go by without a fake controversy concerning energy drinks and cocaine. That’s not by accident. Energy drink makers encourage the connection because of cocaine’s reputation for providing a jolt and being a party drug. Thus beverages such as Cocaine Energy Drink imply how powerful they are when in reality the drink contains about as much…
Kris Kobach tells us why he’s running for Sec of State
When Kris Kobach ran for Congress in 2004 against incumbent Dennis Moore, a woman walked into his campaign headquarters. The voter, Kobach says, was a registered Democrat in Wyandotte County but told the Republican candidate that she intended to vote for him. The funny thing was, she’d already received an absentee ballot in the mail — without requesting it. That…
Breakfast Buffet: Wednesday, 5/27
%{}% KC Beer Blog has some words of advice for the city of Portland, and what to expect if it goes ahead with its plans to build an area similar to the Power & Light District. If the drinking tax Congress is proposing were to go through, not only would it hurt alcohol sales but it would hurt low-wage earners…
Last night’s protest: Prop 8 rally
In San Francisco, hundreds of civil rights’ supporters blocked traffic and dozens of gay activists were arrested when the California Supreme Court announced yesterday afternoon that it would uphold Proposition 8 — a November ballot measure that reversed that state’s sanctioning of same-sex marriage. %{}% At a local protest near the Plaza last night, Kansas City residents were outraged at…
