Nicholas Grunauer on the new Grunauer Restaurant

On Monday we reported that City Tavern will close on April 17 and that three members of the Grunauer family — New York-based chef Peter and his children Nicholas and Elizabeth — will immediately take over the location for a new restaurant serving Viennese food: Grunauer, scheduled to open on May 7.

The general manager of the new venue will be 25-year-old Nicholas Grunauer, right, who completed his degree in finance and received his MBA at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Elizabeth Grunauer, 29, will also be a manager. The Grunauer siblings grew up in New York City, where their father owned a restaurant, Vienna 79, from 1979 to 1988. The senior Grunauer will continue to maintain his home in New York City, although he’ll spend plenty of time in Kansas City to get his namesake restaurant up and running.
