Eat This Now: Italian Steak Sandwich at The Italian Sausage Company

I’ve been in on The Italian Sausage Company from the very beginning.

I’ve written about their incredible collaboration with James Chang and one of their many specials. Well, they’ve done it again.

Michelle and Joe Brancato are the couple who run everything from baking fresh bread, making their own Italian sausage, and even handling their own marketing. They are two incredibly genuine and kind people and that shines through in the quality of the product they put out.

They have a new location (just a couple doors down from the old location) and finally offer indoor seating! That’s right. You no longer have to eat outside or in your car, although you absolutely still can if you want to. I will opt for their air-conditioned family-style seating indoors, away from the evil sun.

Along with their new digs, they also have some new menu items, including Italian Nachos, a Chicken Alfredo Cheese Loaf, Arancini Rice Balls, and a Panzanella and Caesar Salad. They also have their take on the Chicago Italian Beef sandwich, which I have not tried yet, but I can’t wait.

My “Eat This Now” recommendation off their new menu is the Italian Steak Sandwich. It is a hand-breaded steak with tomato sauce and a three-cheese blend on their housemade Italian bread.

My introduction to this sandwich type was as a kid going to Cascone’s in the River Market with my dad. Eventually it turned into a school night special in my household. While I have a nostalgic place in my heart for Cascone’s and my dad’s Italian steak sandwiches, there is no doubt that the Italian Sausage Company has elevated this sandwich to greatness with their fresh, high-quality ingredients and perfect execution. The steak cutlet was perfectly pounded out to achieve ideal crispness, while the red sauce and melted cheese work together to create the perfect bite every single time.

There is not one bad item on their menu, but if you’ve never had an Italian steak sandwich, there should be nothing stopping you now.
