Detox (and retox) at one of these local brunch spots on New Year’s Day

Brunch is never a bad idea, but on New Year’s Day, it is a necessary event. It is the thing that is going to take you from barely alive to sort of functioning. On Thursday, you will drag yourself out of bed, shake off last night’s glitter and regret, and embark on a search for coffee, eggs and probably a bloody mary. To save you the time, we’ve compiled here a short list of some best-hits brunch spots that we know are ready to meet your New Year’s hangover needs.
The Brick – 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Brick offers its 16th annual Hair of the Dog menu on New Year’s Day, with specials on mimosas and bloody marys. Comfort food in generous servings, plus: No windows. Maybe they’ll let you take a nap in a booth.
The Foundry – Opens at noon
Offering their New Year’s Day Beer Brunch for the second year in a row, the Foundry seems to be operating on the assumption that you’re probably still drunk, and why stop the party? The four-course brunch with beer pairings sounds decadent, and at $40 a person, it’s a total bargain.
McCoy’s – Opens at 10 a.m.
If you can’t wait for the Foundry’s noon opening, McCoy’s next door is your answer. It opens at 10 a.m. with the regular menu.
Succotash – Opens at 8 a.m.
The good people at Succotash are pretty sure they’re opening at 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day, but when we called to confirm, they said perhaps to check their Facebook on New Year’s Eve – the opening time may get pushed back to 9 a.m. It’s unlikely that any of us are going to be stirring before the morning hour is at least in the double digits, so we’re not too worried. Breakfast specials are yet to be determined, but you can bet they’ll be yummy.
The Farmhouse – 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Farmhouse is hosting its second annual Pajama Brunch on New Year’s Day. What this means: The staff gets to wear its sleepwear to work, and if they don’t need to mess around with real pants, then neither do you.
Café Europa – Opens at 10 a.m.
Café Europa is open at its normal time for business as usual. We highly recommend the quiche.
Port Fonda – 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Port Fonda is offering its extensive brunch menu on New Year’s Day. If you’ve never tried chasing down a hangover with a shot or two of tequila, this would be the place to test that theory. Not that we’re encouraging you, or anything.
Ladybird Diner – 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Lawrence’s Ladybird Diner is sleeping in just a bit on Thursday for an 11 a.m. opening (as opposed to its usual 7 a.m. curtain call, eesh). If you haven’t experienced one of Ladybird’s pies, well, we feel bad for you. Start your year right with a slice.
This list is by no means comprehensive, so if you’ve got a favorite spot that you’ll be visiting on New Year’s Day, let us know in the comments.
