Boulevard’s Foeder Projekt #1 hits taps this week

  • Fans and critics can both get sour on Boulevard this week.

For those of you worried that Boulevard Brewing Co. founder John McDonald’s decision to sell a majority interest to Belgian-based Duvel Moortgat Brewery will change the KC brewery’s relationship with its hometown, perhaps the news from Southwest Boulevard this week will provide some comfort (or a glass to drown your sorrows).

Boulevard is releasing its Foeder Projekt #1 today for Kansas City area taps (Central States Beverage has released a list of accounts that were offered the beer and Flying Saucer has it on tap). This sour beer comes with a nice creation myth. The beer was aged in a foeder, a large wooden barrel that holds 1,860 gallons of beer, and was going to be part of batching for Love Child No. 3. But when the brewers tasted the aged beer, they believed it deserved to be its own creation. So they hand-kegged it for local taps. As to what you can expect from the new sour, Boulevard’s tasting notes say it is “a very tart, very dry beer.”
