This week's Kansas City restaurant news.

Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Green Lady Lounge is temporarily closed due to a fire on the roof. The Crossroads jazz bar plans to reopen later this month, but performances have temporarily been moved to its sister bar, Black Dolphin, next door. Another local spot is experiencing setbacks, as District Biskuit’s south location missed its May 30 opening date. The breakfast and brunch spot is still in the process of passing inspections and has not announced a new opening date.

Opening

Martin City Brewing Company: The newest location of Martin City Brewing, this one called Martin City Tavern & Terrace, opens June 5 in Crossroads. This two-level bar and restaurant will feature the expected favorite brews from Martin City, plus wood-fired pizzas and new menu items such as ahi tuna tacos, French dip, and steak frites to pair with craft cocktails.

Morton Amphitheater: After a test-run show that benefited Steps of Faith on Monday, Morton Amphitheater officially opened with last night’s Kesha show. I toured the new venue, particularly focusing on the food and bev options.

The Vinyl Room is a thoughtfully curated space that aims to be an homage to KC’s concert history, blending upscale design and retro-basement recording studio elements. However, the bar and outdoor patio are only accessible to premium ticketholders.

The main pavilion has a variety of food and drink options open to any concert-goer. The setup is similar to Electric Park, SERV, and Iron District with its mix of food trucks, trailers, containers, and kiosks. Notable items included the $2 hot dog, non-alcoholic Riffresher drinks, and a local BBQ partner coming soon.

El Café Cubano: El Café Cubano has operated a coffee truck since 2024 and now has a permanent spot in Kansas City (Missouri’s) City Hall rotunda. The coffee counter is open to the public and offers a variety of hot and iced coffee beverages, as well as pastries and empanadas.

Artifact Coffee: In the former Vested Coffee shop location in downtown KC’s garment district, a new tenant is ready to caffeinate the neighborhood. Artifact Coffee opens June 6 and plans to be open 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day except Tuesdays. Expect house-made syrups, coffee and matcha, artful details, and locally-made goods also available for purchase.

June 5

KC Pridefest: Kicking off at 5 p.m. tonight and running through Sunday at 5 p.m., Pridefest takes over Theis Park. The parade at 11 a.m. on Saturday is free to attend, but the festival itself is ticketed at $10 each day or $20 for a weekend pass. On the festival grounds, there will be food trucks and drink vendors, shopping opportunities, live performances, and more. On Saturday, many Westport eateries and bars are offering celebratory Pride deals, including a parade pre-party at Frost.

Jazzoo: I enjoy this fundraiser event so much that I’m in my third year of volunteering for it! For one night only, the zoo transforms into an adults-only, playfully formal, foodie paradise. Over 70 restaurants, 10 bars, and multiple stages for live entertainment await (human) party animals for unlimited sampling. Tickets are $250.

June 6

Lenexa Public Market: From 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Lenexa Public Market goes international with its annual Global Neighbors and Flavors festival. This event features craft and culture booths, live performances, food pop-ups, and specials at on-site restaurants. This is free and family-friendly, and concludes with a parade of flags at 12:50 p.m. Just a few steps away, the Lenexa Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., featuring more global tastes such as Venezuelan Kukiss Bakery and See’s Family Farm offering Asian produce.

Waldo Brews Tour: The 2nd Annual Waldo Brews Tour runs from 12 – 6 p.m. as a self-guided jaunt through some of the area’s locally owned bars and restaurants. After checking in at City Barrel Pizza + Patio, featured stops include Hemma Hemma, Kansas City Bier Co., Kula Cafe, Tommy’s The Happy Place, Emilie’s French Teas, and more. Tickets are $27.72 after taxes and fees and include a T-shirt and koozie, plus drink specials at each location. Transportation is provided for the longer stints between stops.

Beer Fest: To keep the fun brewing, head to Overland Park for the 6th annual Beer Fest at Strang Hall. Over 40 beers are featured for unlimited sampling from 3 – 6 p.m., plus ticketholders can enjoy a DJ and a discount on food. Tickets are $65.37 all in, or $13.51 for designated drivers.
