Kansas City locals now have the opportunity to hold weddings, corporate meetings, and other events in the former Bank of America building at 12345 W. 95th St. in Lenexa, KS. Owner Steve Beaumont has owned the building for roughly 25 years, but after moving the bank to a different location in June 2023, he found himself at a crossroads. He was initially going to sell the building, then the idea struck him to convert it to an event venue.

Construction of the venue was completed in April, and its grand opening was May 10. Beaumont decided to call it The Mint, as the building shares many design similarities with U.S. Mint and Federal Reserve locations throughout the country. Event reservations are now open for the remainder of 2024.

This was not Beaumont’s first foray into hospitality with a thematic twist. As the longtime owner of the Chateau Avalon Hotel, he was responsible for the addition of the Avent Orangery in 2021—a glass conservatory on the hotel grounds that primarily houses weddings. Beaumont says The Mint differs from his previous endeavors in that it’s also suited for corporate events, thanks to its location in the business community of Johnson County.

Some of The Mint’s most unique features include a bar located inside a former bank vault, and another bar located in the bank’s original drive-through, now called “Benjamin Hall.” One of Beaumont’s favorite features is the three, 12′ wide projection TVs that are stitched together to create one 36-wide, 8′ tall TV. He calls it the “television to end all televisions” for business presentations—and for other uses.

“Guess where I’m watching the Chiefs game this year?” he says.

The Mint offers other spaces to accommodate events and meetings of all types. These include two event halls, one of which allows for dances. galas, and weddings, and another that is suitable for banquets, featuring a buffet line, beverage area, and prep kitchen. For those holding their wedding at The Mint, the bridal suite spans 1,100 square feet, and includes a lounge area, a makeup room for six bridesmaids, a vanity space, and a bedroom with a full bathroom and walk-in shower. Meanwhile, the Groom Saloon offers a subterranean cigar lounge.

Altogether, the venue occupies 18,000 square feet, and holds up to 350 guests. Beaumont says he is excited to offer Kansas City residents a gathering space with his one-of-a-kind venue.

“I like doing things differently from how others do them,” he says. “I love the idea of bringing people together to create memories.”
