Creature Feature: Fall in Love event offers $30 adoptions Nov. 9-12
Many pets have come in from multiple households this week from evictions and from owners who have passed away, leaving no one to care for their pets. Families are having to surrender pets because they are unable to find affordable housing or can’t afford needed medical care for their pets.
This weekend, adopters can adopt a new pet for only $30 as part of their Fall in Love Adoption Special, sponsored by Petco Love, happening Thursday, November 9 through Sunday, November 12. All dogs 30 pounds or more and adult cats are $30 at the KC Campus for Animal Care, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, and Petco on 95th Street. Pets in foster homes also qualify.
“We can’t be a lifesaving community without our community’s help,” said Teresa Johnson, President/CEO of KC Pet Project. “With hundreds of pets looking for new homes, we are sure to have the perfect pet for you and your family. If you aren’t looking to adopt a pet, please consider becoming a temporary foster home for a dog or a puppy. We provide all supplies, food, and veterinary care for our foster pets.”

Other Ways to Help:
Share Lost and Found Pets: One of the biggest ways that you can help KC Pet Project, other than adopting, is to help lost pets get back home. If you find a stray pet, posting them on social media pages, Next Door, and any neighborhood groups can help that pet get home faster. Walking the pet around your neighborhood to see if anyone recognizes them is also effective at finding owners of missing pets. Most animals that are reclaimed from shelters are found less than a quarter of a mile from where they live.
KC Pet Project posts all pets that are lost or were found on their website and on a Facebook page. You can look through the album or listings to see if pets were found in your neighborhood. Sharing these pets will help them get back home faster.
Foster a Pet: KC Pet Project is also seeking foster families to provide care for the pets at their shelter. The biggest need currently is for large, adult dogs. Also, if you do not have any pets in your home, there are several dogs that would be a great fit for your home as they need to be an only pet. Visit the KC Pet Project website to sign up.
Donate: More animals coming into the shelter means more resources are needed to care for them. Donations may be made here to support the daily care, medicine, and food needed for hundreds of pets in the shelter, and the most needed in-kind donations right now are dog and cat food, hot dogs, large and extra-large wire kennels, and new or used leashes. Purchase items directly from the shelter’s Amazon or Chewy wish lists through this link.
