Five months after Overland Park-based Butcher Block Concepts — the company created by local father-and-son team Thomas Hughes Sr. and Thomas Hughes Jr. — opened its first Korean-style chicken-wings restaurant, Bonchon Chicken, the venue has closed. The restaurant was at 1740 Northwest Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit.

This was, as The Pitch reported last July, the first local outpost of the popular South Korean restaurant chain, which operates on both U.S. coasts as well as in Singapore and Dubai.

“We knew it was a gamble opening our first restaurant in Lee’s Summit,” says Hughes Jr.

“We never had the traffic in that location that we expected,” he adds.

Butcher Block Concepts is looking at other possible locations in the metro for another Bonchon Chicken restaurant.
