Sprint will officially sell its Overland Park campus

The proposed merger of T-Mobile and Overland Park-based Sprint keeps lurching toward a resolution of some kind. The outcome of a merger is unlikely to be good for Overland Park, for reasons previously discussed here.
Today, Sprint announced the sale of the Sprint World Headquarters Campus. The company floated the idea late last year. It will continue to lease space in the building for its Overland Park employees, at least for now.
The buyer is Occidental Management, Inc., based in Wichita. Occidental also owns the former Overland Park International Trade Center (now Overland Park xChange), not far from the Sprint campus.
“Even though we will no longer own the buildings, our campus operations and processes will continue to function as they do today,” CEO Michael Combes wrote in an email to partners. “So, why sell? Our partners deserve work spaces that are welcoming and comfortable, where collaboration and great work can take place. Proceeds from the sale will allow us to invest in creating an atmosphere that fits our changing culture.”
Combes also notes that Occidental Management “intend[s] to continue and expand upon the campus activities and amenities we enjoy today, showing a real commitment to our culture and partners … Aside from meeting Sprint’s needs and price, Occidental Management stood out to us because they share our vision of a vibrant, high-energy campus, plus an innovation hub to attract startups and attract and retain top talent for world class companies like ours.”
The campus was built in 1997 with the intention of housing 14,500 Sprint employees.
