The Kleptones‘ first release was the brilliant Yoshimi Battles the Hip-Hop Robots in 2003. Since then, Eric Kleptone has mashed up Queen’s A Night at the Opera, as well as creating the magnum opus two-disc concept mix 24 Hours, which attempted to not only combine samples from every possible genre, but tell a linear story as it went.
After a four-year break, the Kleptones are back with Uptime/Downtime, another two-disc mix. Eric Kleptone describes the mix in a press release:
As you’ll hear, it’s one mix of agit-positive jump up and down stuff (what we’re known for, I guess… ;), covering the regular range from rock’n’rap through to rave’n’bass but also a second mix which is a bit of a departure for us, moving into more reflective territory (sampled artists include Scott Walker, Nick Drake, John Mayall and even Current 93 (via Antony Hegarty)). All our own mixes and blends as usual.
There’s already an Uptime/Downtime Wiki, so keep checking that for sample info.
