Say My Name’s cinematic soundscapes

Say My Name 2, the second album from the Lawrence producer/musician/audio collagist Steve Swyers, opens with a one-minute track called “The Squeakquel.” It’s a sort of cheeky, faux-grand announcement of Say My Name’s return. Through a swirling haze of piano and percussion, imposing voices emerge. “It happened once before … It’s about to happen again … And this time ……

It’s an easy thing to figure because d’Ablaing walks through the dining room…

What are your unbreakable food commandments?

Everett Collection What are your rules when it comes to food? An eater must have some rules if he or she is to survive in this world. Even Bizarre Foods’ Andrew Zimmern has a limit — he won’t eat walnuts. Over on Chowhound, there’s a fascinating thread right now asking for people’s “irrefutable food rules.” Among the current rules? No…

Cobra Skulls is at RecordBar tonight; listen to two songs right here

It was 30 years ago the last time a good punk act came out of Reno, Nevada — the straight-edge youth crew 7 Seconds. Cobra Skulls’ rockabilly tinged, twangy punk might have little in common with the speedy hardcore of its Nevadan forebears, but the two bands share a verve and energy, as well as a political polemic to change…
