Sour Babies

Sour Babies Morning Star (L’il Horn) On their debut, the Sour Babies — great name — sounded a bit like Rufus Wainwright trying his hand at singing gothic folk. On Morning Star, their new EP, the seven-piece has upped the drama and moved into something more like Queen doing spaghetti-Western themes. With violins, accordions and guitars ringing out in the…

New video from Street Eaters (at the Studded Bird on Friday)

Street Eaters hail from the same Berkeley scene that birthed the likes of Operation Ivy and Green Day, yet the bass-and-drums duo has more in common with angular English punk acts such as the Fall or Wire. The pair of Megan March and John No are touring in support of their debut full-length, Rusty Eyes and Hydrocarbons, due out July…

Could the Kansas City Chiefs end up as Missouri’s only NFL team?

The Kansas City Chiefs could once again be Missouri’s lone NFL franchise if there’s any truth to a recent OC Register report that the St. Louis Rams are one of five relocation candidates for Los Angeles. But…

Do you care if a restaurant has health-code violations?

In my career as a journalist, I’ve willingly ridden along with the police department, but I never sat shotgun in a health inspector’s car. It’s one thing to see a kitchen or dining room with your eyes; it’s another to see them through the inspector’s clipboard. Obviously, there are different levels of violations — the water turned off in a…
