Will Kansas City ever be a hot-dog town?

  • Kings Quarters
  • Big City Hot Dogs serve ’em up Chicago-style.

With the news last week that Dog Nuvo closed, the hot-dog revolution had a bit of a hiccup. We’re a burger town where hot dogs are typically limited to the tailgaiting arena, and even then are more likely to be sausages or bratwursts. Perhaps we are all just still a little scarred by the hot dog-slinging antics of Sluggerrr, the Kansas City Royals’ mascot.

Are hot dogs merely a niche food in Kansas City, or do you think they’ll manage to become a staple once some of the new hot-dog establishments (Franks in the West Bottoms, Big City Hot Dogs in Martin City, and New York Dawg Pound in Overland Park) have been open for a little while longer?
