What’s the attraction to ranch dressing?

  • Ranch is the “new ketchup,” according to Hidden Valley.

I’m not saying that folks are addicted to ranch dressing in Kansas City. I’m just saying this is the first city I’ve lived in where there’s a checkbox for ranch consumption, alongside whether I’ve smoked or taken drugs in the past 12 months, on my doctor’s intake forms.

And apparently, it’s not just KC. The Wall Street Journal explains that America’s love affair with ranch dressing is about to get thicker – as Hidden Valley has released a “thicker, creamier” version of its signature product that the company is calling the “new ketchup” and that is designed to be used outside the salad bowl. I grew up on Cool Ranch, so I’ll bite. What’s the attraction to ranch dressing?
