What does it take for another city’s cuisine to impress you?

  • Hereford House
  • Has Hereford House set the tone for steaks when you travel?

I’ll admit that in moving from Brooklyn to Kansas City, I came with culinary biases. I had difficulty paying high prices for Thai food, and I didn’t understand why delivery was more the exception than the rule. I’ve since learned to suck it up at the pump and at the end of the meal.

In a recent piece about expensive dinners on SignOnSanDiego, food blogger Matthew Rowley alludes to the idea that it took some time for him to accept that San Diego could offer a great steak, because he is a native of Kansas City. I’m curious if you, Fat City readers, hold other cities to a higher standard based on what you’ve experienced in Kansas City. And if that’s the case, what are the dishes other cities struggle to match?
