Couples that love wine and beer can circle Saturday on the calendar. That’s the date of the seventh annual Village West WineFest. The event at Schlitterbahn (9400 State Ave., in Kansas City, Kansas) runs from 6 p.m. to midnight and features 200 wines, 100 beers, and food from more than two dozen Kansas City restaurants. Tickets cost $75.

Let yourself say a proper goodbye to summer with the Blue Springs Barbeque Blaze-off. The contest, in its 30th year, is tonight and Saturday. There will be plenty of barbecue to eat, plus teams willing to offer advice if you’re new to the competition scene. A beer garden is open from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Blues and barbecue are meant to be together. The two are once again reunited for the 23rd annual Blues and Bar-B-Q, at B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ (1205 E. 85th St.). The event, which benefits the Sherwood Center (a United Way agency providing services for children with developmental disabilities), kicks off at 6 p.m. tonight and continues at 3 p.m. Saturday.

It wasn’t much fun to be a settler in the pioneer days. But it’s fun to go back in time now. The Johnson County Old Settlers celebration goes through Saturday in downtown Olathe, with arts and crafts booths, a carnival, an ice-cream social, and a Kiss cover band. Enjoy the classic fair.

The Falldo Waldo Crawldo Pub Crawl is Saturday. It’s eight bars, and tickets are $7 in advance or $10 the day of.
