The farm-to-library movement gets a jump tonight with Plant the Seed: Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour Kickoff. Tour sponsor Cultivate Kansas City is bringing together a collection of urban-agriculture advocates for a discussion at the Central Library (14 West 10th Street), the first in a weeklong series of events heralding the explosion of urban farms in Kansas City.
Farmer Loretta Craig, UMKC urban planning professor Jake Wagner, Harvest’s Renee Kelly and KU Medical Center’s Brandon Hidaka (part of the Food Is Medicine group at KU) are all slated to speak about the state of growers and eaters in KC. The 6:30 p.m. event is free, but an RSVP is required. There’s a reception at 6 p.m. with Boulevard beer and Webster House appetizers made with locally sourced produce.
