Top 5 maple creations in Kansas City

This is the thick of maple-syrup season, which means that spring has sprung and we can get down to enjoying the desserts and breakfast items that were meant to be maple-flavored.

Real maple syrup is a labor of love — it takes 40 gallons of sap to make a single gallon of maple syrup. The season usually stretches from late February to early April. This year’s production is not expected to be as high as last year, with its all-time high of 2.3 million gallons.

Even though there’s not a maple-syrup producer in Kansas City, I found plenty of maple in area dishes. My five favorites require everything from a fork to a bottle opener.
