Tomatoes by request at Wendy’s

If you’ve received a burger at Wendy’s that only has lettuce, it’s not a mistake. You’ll have to ask for tomatoes when you go through the drive-thru because tomatoes, when they’re available, are “by request only.”

A January tomato freeze in Florida is having an effect on fast-food chains across the nation. More than 80 percent of the state’s tomato crop was killed, and the common slicing tomato is now $1.90 per pound this year — 56 cents higher than last year.
