Today is National S’Mores Day

This so-called dessert, a camp — and kind of campy, too — concoction of graham crackers, a piece of chocolate and a marshmallow has had mixed success sneaking its way onto modern dessert menus. The late Saddle Ranch Chop House, which didn’t last very long out at the Legends complex in Wyandotte County, offered the ingredients as a dessert, but patrons had to take the plate of crackers, chocolate and marshmallows and go outdoors, to the half-hearted little fire pit on the patio, and cook the treat for themselves. I did and swore never again. I realized that I never liked S’mores even when I was a Boy Scout!
