Tienda Casa Paloma closes, new restaurant promised

Adios, Tienda Casa Paloma

Tienda Casa Paloma, the inexpensive cafe and Mexican market (although that aspect of the venue always felt like an afterthought) has closed. Former Hereford House manager Lisa Sanchez Lara and her husband Bernardino opened Tienda Casa Paloma in 2005, but sold the venue at 8220 Metcalf a couple of years ago. Except for the Mexican market items, the new owners ran it pretty much as the Laras had created the little restaurant, serving breakfast all day and Mexican-style lunches and dinners.

Now the storefront’s windows are covered in brown paper and the sign taped to one window says: “Gavino’s Mexican restaurant Coming Soon.”

We’ll keep our eye on the space, but if our Fat City friends notice movement before we do, please let us know.
