Considering how many other things at my parents’ wedding were rentals, it’s hard to believe that the cake wasn’t too. There’s a good chance that if they were getting married today that wouldn’t be the case. That’s because now, you can rent — yes, rent — wedding cakes. Really, it’s the perfect invention for the lucrative wedding world.

The idea was first spread around the Internet last year but after the initial, “Golly, who’d get that?” reaction it turned out that a lot of people would. Cake Rental is the original Web site, but now it has competitors like Rent the Cake of Your Dreams.
