The (un)conscious choice to forget the box of leftovers

Large portions mean leftovers. There is no escaping the foil swan, the white box or the styrofoam cup. And yet the end of the meal is a critical time in the short existence of leftovers (unless they are forgotten in the back of the fridge). In the time between when the check arrives and is paid, leftovers are in very real danger of being left behind.

Leftovers forgotten at restaurants come with mixed emotions. I’ll never forgive myself for leaving behind a beef tenderloin, but I’ve made peace with the second half of those enchiladas that were left in the booth at Jalapenos.
