The perfect bar food menu
Bar food used to be like ballpark food — simple and salty. Both were designed to keep you drinking beer as long as you were in your seat. While salt has not yet been outlawed, “simple” has gone out the window.
Today, bar food can be complex and as important as the cocktails being served. So when The Guardian recently asked readers for what the “the perfect pub food menu” might include, it got me thinking about putting together the perfect bar food menu.
Small plates and reasonable prices being givens, I’d separate my ideal pub menu into four categories: sweet, spicy, fried and cheesy. And although some foods could potentially fall into two or three categories, this should in no way be seen as an endorsement of the abominations that are fried mac and cheese nuggets.
