The July Closed Restaurant List

​A few venerable names in the dining trade closed their doors last month, including, photo at right, the 22-year-old KC Masterpiece in Overland Park (once the flagship restaurant for a mini-empire that included as many as four locations) and the 17-year-old Cafe Italia in the northland.

We also reported on the closing of the hot dog shack at the river’s edge, River Dogs, and wrote an elegy for Eljay’s River Market Coffeehouse, which stopped brewing java a week ago.

And one of the saddest closings of the month: the last call at the cozy Skillet Licker Cafe in Kansas City, Kansas — the home of those “hot l’il doughnuts.”
