The cheapest and priciest hot oatmeal in town

Oatmeal is having a restaurant revival

Earlier this month, the restaurant trade publication Nation’s Restaurant News reported that McDonald’s would roll out a new menu item, fruit and maple oatmeal — served with or without brown sugar and priced at $1.99 — to 14,000 of its locations on January 3. (The Houston Press thinks the fast food giant made the decision after Starbucks had terrific success introducing an oatmeal product two years ago).

Oatmeal has a long history, particularly in Scotland, as a popular breakfast dish, but enuoyed renewed interest in the United States after it was proven that oatmeal can lower blood cholesterol and may reduce the risk of heart disease.
