The case of the missing chef

Last week, Fat City’s Jonathan Bender reported on the new Friday night Happy Hour promotion at Cafe Sebastienne at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The first Happy Hour made its debut last Friday, but Cafe Sebastienne’s executive chef, Jennifer Maloney, wasn’t around for the festivities.

Maloney was at another art happening about 26 blocks to the north, where The Pi Gallery, 419 E. 18th Street, opened a new exhibition called Retro, featuring paintings and drawings by Maloney’s husband, artist Richard Van Cleave.

Maloney brought along a butternut squash fondue and crackers for the gallery visitors, but it was so bitterly cold that attendance was sparce so gallery owner Jody Wilkins hosted another reception on Sunday afternoon. Maloney promises to be back at the Kemper this Friday.
