The Band That Fell to Earth is back for hunky dory performances in annual weekend of Bowie tribute shows at recordBar
Going on its 8th year now, The Band That Fell to Earth is a tribute band for David Bowie. Their first performance was back in 2016 just a few weeks after the death of Bowie. They had stated planning the performance late 2015 and with the surprise of Bowie’s death, “it ended up becoming a way bigger thing than we imagined.”
Bacon says, “We thought it was just going to be a one time events, and it ended up getting moved to the Uptown at the last minute because of the demand for ticket sales.”
The show is at recordBar on Jan. 25, 26, and 27. Tickets start at $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. each night. A bunch of independent makers will be present with merchandise and Bacon says, “we also give a portion of proceeds to a local nonprofit this year, it’s going to be Midwest Innocence Project.”
They also have an auction on the Saturday night show for a poster from the previous year signed by the band. The money raised by that is all donated to the Midwest Innocence Project, who work to see people wrongfully convicted of crimes freed, as well as supporting them afterwords.
The 13-piece band works with a variety of different guest stars each time. Each member of the band is also a member of a different band or is independent, so they bring a wide variety of talent to the table. Each night of the show focuses on a different arrangement of songs, notably with the Thursday VIP show featuring the Hunky Dory album.
The band features Michelle Bacon, Steve Tulipana, Nathan Corsi, Katy Guilen, Alex Alexander, Stephanie Williams, Kyle Dalhquist, Julia Haile,Havilah Bruders, Rich Wheeler, Christine Broxterman, Laurel Morgan-Parks, and Matt Ronan.
While originally supposed to be a one time event now they honor the life and musical talent of David Bowie each year. For any fans of his, this is a chance to meet like-minded people and remember him with a nice celebration. For those who are not yet fans, this is a chance to hear his music performed live and feel the energy behind it.
General admission tickets are $20 in advance and VIP tickets are $50 in advance.
