Sunflower Seed versus Snickerdoodle Cookies

Locavores are going about things the wrong way. If you really want to convince someone to eat local, you start with the cookies and then you sneak in the vegetables.

In that spirit, two area bakeries are selling cookies made from ingredients you likely have in your kitchen — although you’d be hard pressed to match these cookies in a taste contest. The folks at Grace’s Best, based in Parkville, do one thing very well: They make Sunflower Seed cookies. It’s why they were named to Fat City’s Top 10 list of cookies last December.

Best Regards, in Olathe, makes chocolates and baked goods. With a tagline of “The Kansas City Cookie,” its cookies are in stores nationwide. Best Regards offers a refined take on classic cookies flavors like lemon tea and chocolate mint.

So, I set these cookies head to head with a large glass of Shatto milk and a promise to myself that I wouldn’t finish the entire package.
