State bans doughnuts from Capitol Midweek Farmers Market

In Topeka this week, it’s been much ado about doughnuts. The Topeka Capitol-Journal reports that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has banned the Rees Fruit Farm from selling apple-cider doughnuts at the Capitol Midweek Farmers Market.
The market, held Wednesdays on the Statehouse grounds, has a new requirement for the 2011 season that all produce and goods sold must be from Kansas. Because the apple-cider doughnuts are made from a mix that doesn’t contain Kansas wheat flour, Rees Fruit Farm is no longer allowed to peddle them.
