St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and other weekend possibilities
- Pat Murfey’s Off the Beaten Path
- For many in the city, St. Patrick’s Day begins at Browne’s.
You might have only rashers, bangers and soda bread with your coffee, so you might as well do it right. Your first stop on Saturday should be the traditional Irish breakfast at Browne’s Market (3300 Pennsylvania). The breakfast runs from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served after the parade from noon to 5 p.m. with Guinness, Smithwick’s and $2 Miller beers. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the Un-traditional Irish breakfast at the Dark Horse Tavern (4112 Pennsylvania) in Westport. The bar opens at 7 a.m., and from 8 to 10 a.m. are Guinness Power Hours with biscuits and gravy and Lucky Charms. Perhaps that can fuel you for at least part of the tavern’s Leprechuan Throwdown Dance Party, which runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you’re heading to Westport, Kelly’s (500 Westport) opens at 9 a.m. and will have its standard outdoor beer garden on Pennsylvania Avenue. And the district is holding a pub crawl among Buzzard Beach, the Dark Horse Tavern, Ernie Biggs and Harry’s Bar and Tables — all of which will be serving green beer.
