Sheridan’s Unforked has an eco-conscious Burger Week offering

Most readers of The Pitch who are taking advantage of this week’s Burger Week promotion — $5 hamburgers served at 16 local restaurants through Sunday, October 25 — just assume that the grilled beef patty they’re biting into isn’t as healthy as, say, a leafy green salad or a crispy apple.

And they’re right — most of the time. But when you’re talking akaushi beef — which contains high concentrations of heart-healthy oleic acid and a high ratio of monounsaturated to saturated fats — it’s not just any grilled burger. It’s this close to health food.

OK, OK, that’s pushing it, but Sheridan’s Unforked, at 7337 West 119th Street in Overland Park, is offering its akaushi beef burger — with cheese, if you ask — through Sunday at the special $5 Burger Week price, and it’s damn good. Once you’ve mastered the pronunciation (say ah-ka-oo-shi), you’re on your way. And because it’s far from McDonald’s fare, you can feel less guilty about ordering a pumpkin-pie concrete or a hot fudge pecan pie sundae to round things out.

All Burger Week burgers are eat-in only.
