Less than a month after Fat City wrote about Patrice Welcher, the imaginative new chef at Sharp’s 63rd Street Grill, Welcher was suddenly out of the kitchen and her baby-faced sous chef, 24-year-old Matthew Coe had been promoted to executive chef.

He’s pretty serious about his work. On a recent Friday evening, as he was preparing some dough for a batch of rolls, the mixer went haywire and broke Coe’s arm. He called me from the emergency room.
