Scenes from aisle four

Across the city, turkeys come in all shapes for all budgets. Whole Foods has a handy chart to explain the range between frozen turkeys and heritage or heirloom turkeys. A fresh turkey will run you $1.29 per pound at Hen House (with your Rewards card). If you’re looking for frozen turkey, Price Chopper has a Best Choice turkey for 40 cents per pound (with a $25 purchase). Hy-Vee has a certified organic turkey for $2.99 per pound. And if you want to let somebody else handle the turkey, Fritz’s Smoked Meats has small (8 lbs., $55.99), medium (11 lbs., $71.99), and large turkeys (15 lbs., $89.99).

Other weekend observations from area grocery stores:

If you’re looking for a Ripple Glass recycling bin, they’ve started to appear at Price Choppers. This stack was just inside the door at 103rd and State Line. “People are getting them,” the cashier told me when I asked if anybody was buying the bins. The store is open 24 hours so you can get yours whenever you like.
