Riverside planners are considering a proposal from Live Nation Entertainment to build a new amphitheater.
Riverside was an underutilized section of the metro area until the early 90s, when Argosy Casino went up int he area, and obviously the last few years have brought a number of exciting new additions to the area.
The Riverside Planning and Zoning Commission is currently discussing proposals around the 15,000-seat open-air amphitheater.
The project, which would be located near Interstate 635 and Horizons Parkway, would also include 15 ancillary building, including restrooms, food vendors, a box office and more. Live Nation’s plan includes over 5,400 parking spaces, including room for VIP and ADA guests and rideshares.
The proposed amphitheater and parking facility would occupy about 125 acres located on the southeast corner of the Horizons Industrial Park, directly west of the new KC Women’s Soccer Training Complex.
The Current stadium is slated to also operate as a music venue, so the idea of Riverside getting two new larger stages for touring acts in the next year is wildly exciting for concert fans. For this to hit in a time when touring musicians are struggling and our venues are also facing hard times means that this offers a lot of questions for what comes next for this industry.
