Rare Hopslam tapping tonight at Flying Saucer

Tonight, Flying Saucer Draught Emporium taps two casks of Bell’s Brewery’s Hopslam, an American Double/Imperial India Pale Ale.

January and February are a beer drinker’s version of Beaujolais Nouveau. A limited release of Hopslam began shipping from Bell’s in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on January 7 and is only available through February. Because it’s a limited batch, the cases that will arrive in Kansas City this week are in high demand.

That’s also because it’s one of the beers that causes people to fall in love with India Pale Ales. It’s a beautiful amber color, packed with hops and a 10 percent alcohol by volume that hits you before the end of the first glass. How many beers do you know with waiting lists and sonnets?
