Quay Coffee now serving lunch

A month ago, Fat City’s Jonathan Bender wrote about a new coffeehouse, Quay Coffee, taking over the sunny space at 412 Delaware in the River Market; the location had previously been occupied by K City Coffee House and Wine Bar and, before that, Eljay’s. A Fat City reader wrote in to say the venue was now serving lunch.

“Serving lunch” may be an overstatement: The owners now have a small refrigerated grab-and-go case with three kinds of sandwiches or wraps, including one vegetarian option, in clear-plastic boxes. Today’s choices include roast beef and pepper jack cheese on a croissant and a colorful, crunchy combination of vegetables — sliced carrots, spinach, red onion, tomato and cucumber on marble rye slathered with an herbed cream cheese. It’s tasty but pretty pricey at six bucks.

The sandwiches are prepared daily by the Soho Cafe & Bakery at 310 West Eighth Street, which also supplies the coffeehouse with morning pastries.
