Premiere: Kat King’s video for ‘Living Room’ rebels against a boring house party
We’re big fans of Kat King and her label, Manor Records, here at the Pitch, and it’s time to share another outing from them both. King released her latest EP, Domestic Bliss, on April 5, the first collection of songs since 2021’s Say What You Mean.
The Pitch is excited to premiere the video for Domestic Bliss‘ “Living Room” due to several reasons: the song’s a dreamy, shimmering piece of indie pop with just a hint of wistfulness; the video is directed, produced, and edited by Ryan Njenga, who was behind Paris Williams’ “Sunsets & Solariums” video; any song which pays homage to the desire to hang out in your living room with the person you like instead of going out gets us right in the feels; and the tempo switch in the latter third is flipping magical.
King says of the video, “For this video I really just wanted to portray the feeling of being bored at a house party with a slow build to some kind of dancing release after the party. After scheming with Ryan of Njenga Films, we decided to stay true to the song and add in the love interest to take the narrative to its conclusion.
We shot it all in one 13 or so hour day, switching from party to daylight lighting throughout which made it hard to ever know what time it actually was. Huge thanks to Njenga Films and BoomBox for bringing this vision to life, to Jonathan Cokely for lending his home for a day and to all of the extras who made the party feel real.”
