Post-Valentine menudo breakfast on Sunday

Not everyone loves menudo (in fact, one blogger refers to it as “one of the dishes white people don’t like”), but it’s a classic Mexican-American dish: a robust and deliciously spicy soup made with tripe, calves feet, hominy, green chiles and seasonings. It’s reportedly a terrific cure for hangovers and a myriad of other ailments.
The soup is not be be confused with the hot and spicy 1980s teenage boy band of the same name — the musical group that introduced future heartthrob Ricky Martin to the world.
Big bowls of steaming menudo will be served to the public tomorrow — Sunday, February 15 — when Azteca de Greater Kansas City hosts a Menudo Breakfast at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 907 Cesar Chavaz Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until the food is gone); the organization will also sell breakfast burritos and breakfast plates of beans, papas and chorizo. Funds raised by the event will help support Azteca de Greater Kansas City. Entertainment will be provided by radio personalities Viviana Frias-Medillin and Manny Martinez.
