Please come back, Coffee Break

Sometimes a man needs a mini-oven. Coffee Break was that place for me.
The quirky coffee shop at 5400 Troost looks like it still could be open. And if it were, I’d walk in and order a cup of drip coffee made with beans from PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. in Topeka. I’d also order a cinnamon roll. Here’s where the mini-oven would come into play.
The cinnamon rolls at Coffee Break weren’t crave-worthy until you took advantage of the toaster oven and aluminum foil set out for customers. Once the cinnamon roll was warm and gooey, it was hard to wait long enough for it to cool before shoveling one into my face in a manner not appropriate away from the home breakfast table.
With the MAX coming to Troost this year, the street could use a coffee shop in the oasis between Muddy’s and the trio of Brookside-Waldo coffeehouses (Roasterie, One More Cup and Coffee Girls).
Here’s hoping Coffee Break isn’t on a permanent coffee break.
