Pistachios are a test of will and creativity

Around this time of year, I eat enough nuts (settle down, kids) to qualify as a squirrel. While I understand that some find love in the shells of black walnuts, my greatest holiday weakness is pistachios.
Pistachios are the puzzles of the nut world. Some give way with startling ease, while others are simply abandoned back into the glass jar, waiting to foil me later, when I’m a bit deeper into the pile.
